Inclusive Practices Across the Lifespan

Focuses on inclusive approaches from early childhood through adulthood, including transitions, extracurriculars, and family partnerships.

Inclusive Beginnings: Belonging in Early Childhood Settings

The early years are foundational for identity, relationships, and learning. This course explores how inclusive practices in preschool and kindergarten can foster belonging from the very beginning. Participants will learn how to support all children—regardless of ability, language, or background—through responsive environments, collaborative partnerships, and developmentally appropriate practices that honour each child’s right to be fully included.

Planning for Transition: Inclusive Pathways Across the Grades

Transitions between grades—and especially between schools—can be pivotal moments in a student’s educational journey. This course examines how thoughtful, inclusive transition planning can ensure continuity, preserve relationships, and empower students and families. Participants will explore structures, timelines, and communication strategies that honour each learner’s history, strengths, and future potential across early, middle, and high school transitions.

From High School to Community: Reimagining Transition Planning

Traditional high school transition plans often focus narrowly on employment or specialized services. This course reframes transition as a holistic process of preparing all students—particularly those with disabilities—for a meaningful adult life rooted in belonging, contribution, and choice. Participants will explore inclusive strategies for career exploration, community engagement, post-secondary preparation, and collaborative planning with students and families.

Beyond the Bell: Inclusion in Extracurriculars and Community Life

Inclusive education extends beyond classroom walls. This course explores how extracurricular programs, clubs, teams, spiritual activities, and community engagement offer critical opportunities for students to experience belonging, agency, and personal growth. Participants will learn how to design and adapt extracurricular and community-based experiences to ensure full participation for all students, especially those with disabilities or other support needs.

Partnering with Families: From Advocacy to Leadership

Families are not just advocates—they are experts, leaders, and essential partners in inclusive education. This course explores how to move from family engagement to authentic collaboration, co-leadership, and shared decision-making. Participants will examine strategies to honor family voice, support diverse advocacy journeys, and build systems that recognize families as key stakeholders in inclusion.

Building Social Capital Through Inclusive Practice

Belonging is not just about participation—it’s about connection. This course explores how inclusive education fosters the development of social capital by creating opportunities for relationships, reciprocity, and meaningful contribution. Educators will learn how to build learning environments that support the development of friendships, peer networks, and community ties, recognizing that these connections are essential to lifelong inclusion and well-being.
